What?!? I have never seen a record store anywhere that stored rock and pop
in the same section!

I think that one of the best places to look for a meaning of the titles
"pop" and "rock" is precisely in a record store. The store owner sets up the
sections to maximise profits. When he/she gets a new record to sell, the
first thought that they have is: "in which section will this music sell the
best?" From there, the decision is made. It's all about sales.

There's also metal, thrash-metal, house, dance, hip-hop, garage, grundge,
sludge, fudge, and probably even as I'm inventing these genres they are
actually being produced somewhere....
