I am copying an old score and trying to duplicate its notation exactly. In
one section, there are a number of figures, the simplest of which is:
sixteenth note, thirty-second rest, thirty-second note with the sixteenth
and thirty-second notes beamed together. The obvious way to achieve this is
with the Options/Document Options/Beams/Extend Secondary Beams Over Rests
setting (although I don't necessarily want this behavior globally).
Unfortunately, this option extends the thirty-second flag over the
thirty-second rest. This long thirty-second beam can be broken using the
Beam Break Tool, but then an unwanted, detached beam is placed over the
thirty-second rest. I don't believe I've ever seen this notation style
before. It seems to be an artifact of the Finale implementation. The only
way I can think of to get the double beam without the artifacts is do draw
the second beam with a shape expression or custom line, but these solutions
are kluges. Is there any way of getting the notation I want?

Regards,

Rob Jenks
