Here is an odd question that came across my desk the other day, for which I would like to tap the collective wisdom of the group:
Does anyone know if the bugle has a home in proper score order? If so, where does it go? And is this different for orchestra and concert band? My instinct is to think that the bugle, if used, would almost certainly be used as a soloist (probably for a short snippet), and would therefore be treated like a normal soloist in score order. I can't imagine someone wanting to include bugle as a full-fledged member of the trumpet section. But maybe my imagination isn't broad enough . . . Anyway, does anyone know if there are real rules about this?
