I just updated to System 10.2.4, and Finale does run in Classic with MIDI operational for input and output.

YES!!!!!!!! FINALLY!!!!!!

Granted, I haven't *really* put it through its paces yet, but playback is stable on large scores, MIDI entry works flawlessly [so far], and all of the annoying interface bugs that used to plague Finale under Classic w/MIDI turned on are gone. This looks very promising indeed, especially for those who were considering new hardware which does not boot into OS 9.

There seems to be one rather annoying thing, however: In the box at the bottom of the screen where measure numbers or page numbers should appear, there is a blank, and I can't select it. Very strange indeed.

Hal, I used to have this problem, but it has disappeared completely with 10.2.4. Try turning off MIDI (using MIDI Setup, change the interface to "none") -- the number in the box should reappear (you may have to redraw). Then try turning it on again. If that fails, try fiddling with your Classic extension set -- I use an absolutely stripped-down set, just enough to run Classic, Finale, OMS and QuicKeys.

Thanks, Apple, for finally getting MIDI to work under Classic -- a few years late, but hey... I thought they'd basically given up making any improvements to Classic whatsoever.

And thanks to Hal for bringing this to our attention!
