Hi,

I thought it was about time I tried out OS X more seriously, especially now
that it seems Finale may be Classic compatible. However, I am running into
numerous small but annoying problems. Perhaps the OS X experts on this list
may be able to help me with some of this:

1) I can't seem to get my modem make any connection noises through the
speaker of my powerbook. I know this is not a big thing, but I am suffering
of rather unstable connections at times, and have to connect from hotel
rooms etc, where it is really nice to hear what is happening. I know this
was an issue with OS X, but I heard this was resolved in 10.2.4. But I still
cannot hear my modem. Is there anything I am missing?

2) In OS 9 I connect to the internet by typing a web address in Explorer and
hitting return. The Mac then dials the internet and displays the page. In OS
X I cannot get this working properly: My Mac starts dialing, but before it
finishes connecting Explorer sends me a message saying it couldn't connect.
I can then wait until I have a connection and try again, and this time it
will load the page.
Is there some kind of timeout setting I haven't found yet?
The same happens in Mail, btw.

3) Mail: As far as I know Outlook Express is not available for MacOs X, so I
guess I am left with Mail. Don't like it much, I have to admit. I'd like it
much more if at least I could get it to connect and disconnect
automatically. Is this possible?

I am sure more questions will come up, which I am happy to post privately if
someone with more OS X experience is willing to help me...

Thanks for any help,
Johannes
