I don't know about ghost lines, but if your goal simply is alignment you
might consider using the grid option. You can align the articulations
according to one of the grid lines. Go to Page View and from the View menu
you'll see Show Grid and you'll also see a grid options item which gives you
many choices as to the grid.

A lower-tech trick you can use to check horizontal or vertical alignment of
elements is to click the Staff tool, click and hold anywhere on the screen
and move the mouse up or down, left or right. This displays temporary dashed
lines (a flexible box, really) for as long as you hold the mouse button
down. You can use the horizontal or vertical lines of the box to quickly
check alignment.
