Is he a proponent of that software that whose name starts with S and ends in ibelius? ;-) >>Secondly, though, he said that he'd called the Coda support line, and they'd told him that they had no idea when the OS X version would be coming out, and that it would probably be next year! Is this standard subterfuge from the company reps, trying to sustain upgrade sales of Finale 2003 as long as possible, or is there really a problem?<< Did he call tech support or did he call customer service (800 number or 952 number)? The statement on our website is very clear: "Finale 2003 is not a native OSX application. Although Finale 2004 (expected to be released summer of 2003) is currently in development and will be a native application, in the interim Finale 2003 (and earlier versions) will need to run in Classic mode or OS 9." My department (R&D--I'm not a programmer, don't ask me questions <g>...) has been operating under this directive for quite some time now. (a lot of my work would go buh-bye) You say it yourself: "Coda have made plenty of statements that Finale 2004 will definitely be Mac OS X native, including in their latest earnings press release and in their knowledge base" Why are you worried? ;-) We do not publicize specific release dates. We are very clear about that and have been for longer than I've worked here. I'll bet your colleague got the "Summer of 2003" statement and misinterpreted it. If I were a betting man and didn't work for Coda, I'd look at the last 2 relases and say, "Hmmm. Mac came out a month or two after windows, in the summertime. Maybe they're doing the same thing they do most years..." >> it crawls on my G4 400Mhz and I don't know why!<< Have you spoken to [EMAIL PROTECTED] about this? I'll bet they could help... -----Original Message----- From: William Roberts [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, July 02, 2003 5:11 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Finale] Finale 2004 *not* to be OS X compatible? Hello fellow listers, I was speaking to a colleague of mine in another school the other day, and he told me two little snippets that have me a bit worried! Firstly, he said that one of Coda's dealers had to pull Finale from their stand at an upcoming trade show because they only had new Macs on the stand running OS X. Now it sounds to me like this is entirely reasonable: if Coda haven't yet announced Finale 2004, then why would they show it at some trade show ahead of the announcement? But my colleague reckoned that the dealer said this was because Coda simply didn't have an OS X version ready (which is true, if 2004 isn't due out yet!). This doesn't sound like anything to worry about to me. Secondly, though, he said that he'd called the Coda support line, and they'd told him that they had no idea when the OS X version would be coming out, and that it would probably be next year! Is this standard subterfuge from the company reps, trying to sustain upgrade sales of Finale 2003 as long as possible, or is there really a problem? This worries me a little more than the trade show thing. Coda have made plenty of statements that Finale 2004 will definitely be Mac OS X native, including in their latest earnings press release and in their knowledge base... but could they really have hit a major bump in the road? I'm hoping the 2004 upgrade will make using Finale a bit more pleasurable on my Mac. Despite Darcy assuring me that it ought to run fine on my machine in OS 9, it crawls on my G4 400Mhz and I don't know why!
