FWIW, I too run into this bug reasonably recently.  I have no idea why it
happens, but basically it seems to be as you say, that changing a text block
and (1) change all similar text blocks  in all open documents (e.g. open
parts extracted from the same file), or (2) changing the staff name headers
to what was in the text block.  Finale 2002b on Mac OS 9.2.

No solutions that I'm aware of, sorry to say, but at least someone out here
is sympathising with you.
