Friends: [OK. I don't really need to submit the request to solve my problem; still if this is a condition I discovered, the description seems to warrant posting this to the list anyway.]
Currently working on a score of a sonata for solo instrument and piano, where the composer has chosen to specify metrical subdivisions of compound meters by displaying a measure at the beginning. That is, in a 9/8 measure, he shows where the metronome marking is, the set of symbols h d-q q | where h is a half note, d-q is a dotted quarter, q is a quarter, and | is a bar line. In designed a shape expression using the same font as I am using for the notation of the work for the first three items, and a line (using the line tool) for the bar line, grouping all of these items together. I have run into a problem with this in the full score, where the piano part is at one size, and the solo instrument is significantly smaller (reduced about 2/3 of the size). Even though the expression is grouped, the reduction does not apply equally, so that in the piano part, the expression displays the way I intended it, but in the reduced solo part, the bar line is a significant distance to the right of the last note. Attempting to provide an image, what displays in the piano part as above, displays (at reduced size) in the solo part as h d-q q | Now as it happens, having taken the time to type all this out, I've arrived at a couple of solutions to the problem, one of them being to place the items in the shape designer differently (presently, the origin circle of the shape designer is under the d-q note--I suspect the situation will become indetectable if I shift the shape so the bar line symbol is on the origin, and become exaggerated if the group is shifted so the origin is under the half note), the other to use the bar-line character from the notation font instead of using the shape-note line tool. Is this situation where the spacing of shape-expression elements is different at one reduction size than another a known feature, or have I stumbled upon something previously unknown? ns. _______________________________________________ Finale mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
