What are the implications of this?

Though this is not a specific concern of mine, I took a look at my Component Files folder and found this file to contain a list of a good deal of common Mac symbol fonts.


This, for me, begs the same question (in whatever sense you'd like to take that idiom): What does WinFin2k4 do differently with "Symbol" fonts as opposed to "Text" fonts? For that matter, what is the difference on a Mac, other than placing the Symbol fonts at the bottom of the list?
