From: "RockyRoad" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > I am writing for a Marimba which goes down to "A" (the instrument, > not the piece). Is Marimba notated in the treble clef on a single > stave? Which A on the stage is the bottom note on the Marimba?
Marimba music is notated on one treble staff when the music only needs that, and it's written on a piano-like pair of staves, using treble and bass clefs, when there are low notes mixed in. You can switch methods mid-piece if it fits the music's needs. Marimbists are used to seeing this. Marimbas come in many sizes; the smallest standard one (in the US) goes down to the low C matching the viola's bottom pitch, sounding as notated. The next size continues down a 3rd to the A you mentioned, and the big one goes all the way down to the cello's low C.
