Can I tell Finale 2003a that in this document, or a range of measures, all 5/8 should be grouped 3+2 and all 7/8 should be grouped 3+2+2? If not, that's a good feature to look forward too.
Yes, and fairly easily. In the Time Signature dialog box, click the "Composite..." button, and enter "3+2" over "8" (with the "3+2" all in the same entry field). Then, click "Use different time signature for display" and choose 5/8. If you want this to happen sometimes, but not always, you'll have to set a different time signature for the two regions (but have them display the same).
If I can't set this for a document or passage, I wonder why the beaming was forgotten after revisions? Dynamics and articulation stayed intact.
This I don't know. But if you set it from the start to beam the way you want without revision in the first place, you won't have to worry about it.
