This is a most crucial question and somewhat related with Finale inability to export proper and useful graphic in eps on the Windows 2k/Xp platform. The problem has turned out to be mainly font related. I will later post my solutions to use Finale generated eps files with other programs on Win2k and WinXp. I suspect the Unicode implementation of Win2k/Xp to somewhat screw up special symbol fonts such as the music fonts of Finale. (I'm on Xp and this behaviour you describe I get from the supplied postscript fonts, not the typetype.)
You can try this: Use the postscript fonts on the Finale CD to see if this will solve the problem. Remember to remove the truetype versions and to install the postscript fonts in the windows\fonts folder. (The setup program of Finale will automatically place the postscript fonts in the c:\psfonts folder. This kind of setup will only work if you have ATM installed. This behaviour in Win2k/Wp should be changed by MakeMusik!) If this doesn't work please contact me and I will sent you a postscript font to try out. (It is the Engraver font with another codepage encoding: Western (Latin1) instead of Symbol). This font may, however, not work if you work on cross platform files and make a Mac/PC text conversion. If Finale would support Unicode I guess this would not be an issue.
