Personally, I find respacing with articulations checked to be
unsatisfactory in cases when the arpeggio is on the downbeat. If the
arpeggio line is the same distance from the barline to the left as an
unarpeggiated chord would be, that distance looks too wide to my eye.
Respacing with articulations unchecked is even worse, of course; the
optimal position is somewhere in between. I usually do this with
case-by-case tweaking. If I have a piece with a lot of arpeggios, I'll
place all of the downbeat ones a uniform distance too close to the chord on
my first pass, respace with articulations checked, and then move them all
left to their proper position.

I suppose it would be nice if one could set different values for distance
before the first item in a measure depending on what that first item is.
I'd like to adjust the distance for a measure starting with an accidental
as well, though in that case the default is close enough that I generally
leave it alone except in special cases.
