I would like to differentiate the bass line from melody on a guitar score written with a TAB line below it.
I've seen it in several books where the bass numbers are notated in bold to set themselves apart from the rest of the TAB fingering. This is very helpful in pieces such as Leo Kottke or Chet Atkins, or anyone else who uses an alternating bass pattern, or where the melody floats into the middle.
