Subject: [Finale] Lab setup problems FinMac 2k4

Hello Folks,

I have lurked on this list for many years and greatly value the
combined knowledge the participants hold and share. Thanks to you all!

I teach an introductory Finale class and an advanced music engraving
class and, of course, use the program for my own work.

Currently we have a dilemma managing to setup FinMac 2k4 in our labs
and our IT guru is at his wits end attempting to sort it out. Any
advice will be greatly appreciated (...our first semester 2004
commenced today!) Of course, we are seeking assistance from our
suppliers (and MakeMusic/Coda as well).

We have a teaching lab with 13 identical G4 iMac running OSX.3 with
external MIDI keyboards. The required software including Finale 2004
(Mac) was installed on one of the iMacs. (In our case , during the
image creation process, Finale was installed successfully and after
installation was also registered completely.) Then using a utility
called Carbon Copy Cloner, an image of the final software setup is
created and configured for a NetBoot setup. The image file is
uploaded to a Mac Xserve.

The workstations boot up and read the image and run any required apps
from the image on the server. The workstations have a hard disk but
it contains only the default user directory which is required by the
OS to work. It also contains some preferences for application and
system software. The contents of the default user directory are
copied from the workstation on which the image is built and then
imaged across all the workstations.

We suspect that the file (if a file) which holds the registration
info is not being retained when the workstations read from the image,
because Finale behaves as if it hasn't been registered.
After extensive testing in trying to identify the file which flags
that Finale has been registered, we can't determine what file keeps
this info.
If this info is kept on a file can anyone let me know which file it is ?

Replies off-list might be preferable.

Thanks,

Stephen
