It sounds to me as if the keyboard maybe stuck and is giving out a midi message, if as you mention:

3. Instead of receiving notes from the piano, it is just entering notes from the computer keyboard whenever I try to choose the note value to accept from the piano.

Try 'all notes off' and panic buttons etc. <<

Thanks for trying to help me. I think you may have misunderstood what I said about the computer keyboard. It works find in Simple Entry and does not interfere with the piano.

If you are running Finale in classic then you may get eratic results if you switch from one environment to the other and are using MIDI in both. <<

I don't switch back and forth. However, I have some old files which were created under 9.2.2 on an older system which does not have OSX. I wonder if opening these files cause this alteration in my MIDI.

Try trashing your OMS prefs and starting again with the OMS setup. Or check the MIDI message is coming thru by using the 'test' menu selection in OMS. Also make sure that under the MIDI settings in Finale that you have you input and output device chosen correctly. If you have 2 identical devices try selecting the other one this time.<<

I have only one device, and have run the OMS setup several times. The MIDI message comes through fine during the test, but when I try to use the MIDI keyboard to enter data, I get nothing.

Why do you need the Quicktime thing showing? OMS should show the keyboard as being connected not QT. <<

QuickTime has always been part of the setup for as long as I have had this machine. OMS does show the keyboard going both in and out, and QuickTime is x'd out.

You have got to work out when it all went wrong and what you did that may have upset the MIDI set up you have been using up to then. <<

This was my first thought. However, since it happened spontaneously (I have never attempted to make any changes, nor do I switch back and forth between 9.2.2 and OSX, I have been wondering if opening the old file made this change.

Let me know if it still doesn't work and I'll wrack my brains for other solutions, I've been there you're not alone!!! <<

I was here when I first got this machine with OSX, but got it working. I have never really understood how, though, so it's hard to trace my steps back.
