I've been trying out the macro program iKey and comparing it to Quickeys especially with Finale 2004 on Panther (Mac OS X.3+).

At first I found Quickeys hard to program because it is very different from Quickeys 5 on the Mac OS 9. I then tried and preferred iKey because it reacted quicker and seemed simpler to program. iKey also didn't delay running the macro just because you held your fingers down too long on the keyboard triggers. (This is my main complaint against Quickeys.)

I recently downloaded the Quickeys 2.1 update and I have to give the edge to this program. The speed difference between Quickeys 2.1 and iKey 1.06 is now negligible on my system. Quickeys is a little more elegant in the way it can access the system. Clicks are smarter and don't need as many programming steps. I also like the way Quickeys can return the cursor to where it was before the macro was invoked. I don't think iKey can do this yet.

Both programs will get the job done, but for those of you who who have written off Quickeys, perhaps they should give it another look.
