Is anyone able actually getting work done in a timely manner with Finale 2004 on a Mac G4? Perhaps this cpu is
just not beefy enough to run this program. You think it would be. Is it running well on G5?
I've got a G4 dual 800 and Finale runs so slow that is virtually useless as a tool for producing music on a deadline. I've tried the turning off the suggested list of auto features, not using lyrics and changing monitor to thousands rather than millions of colors. Still redraw is frustratingly slow. The new features are great but not worth the downside of working in 2004.
If a client wants it on Finale, I use 2003 in OS9. But if I have a choice, I use Sibelius 3 in OSX. I just really love working in OSX. By the way the only other program that I have a problem with in OSX is Quickeys. Everything else runs better in OSX than in OS9.
I called tech support and was told that Finale is a very old program with " a lot of old code" and this is why is runs so slow. He also pointed out to me that Sibelius was not as old as Finale so that's why it doesn't have the problems speed problems. This statement really surprised me, quite the come back. What can you say to that?
I really hope they rework Fin 2004 soon. If it they can get to perform as well as 2003 in OS9 with the new features of 2004 it will be a great tool.
