I think Richard got this right, as did Barbara Touburg in an off-list note. Finale does not get along with large measures. Rebarring to 8/1 solved the problems, but I do not like to set everything up only to have to undo it to
compensate for Finale's issues.

When I use an unbarred music effect, I'll generally go for half or quarter notes but sometimes less. So that kind of limitation simply hasn't come up for me. Just a side note:


According to the PDK, the maximum width in EVPUs for a measure is supposed to be 32767 (max signed short).

4096 * 8 = 32768; //(which would probably roll around to -1).

32767.0 / (72 * 4 ) = 113.777777778; //kinda close to your previous displacement!

I suppose there's a special case for 8 whole note measures but am not 100% sure. However, there are known places where small negative values have special significance.
