2K4b has arrived. I have screwed my courage to the sticking place and
installed it. I have oohed and ahhed over its prettiness. I have opened a
score and played it, using internal speaker playback. It's a PB800 w/512MB
RAM, not the fastest machine on the block but by no means an old machine.
(9.2.2, by the way.) The playback was so garbled as to be indistinguishable
from what I'd written.

Closed the score. Opened a new file and entered some notes. Played those
back. Well, tried to. The status bar at the top of the window reads
"Processing measure [flashing numbers too fast to follow]," as always--but
instead of stopping, and then playing the score, correctly or otherwise, 2K4
hangs right there and I never get playback. And I get nothing else until I
force-quit Finale.

So...back to 2k2b. But now...THE SAME THING'S HAPPENING. No playback, just
flashing numbers.

I presume this means the 2k4 installer did something bad to QT Musical
Instruments which is now affecting 2k2, but I'm grateful for any insight
from those who've been 'round this block a time or two.

Best regards,
Clay

(In case you're wondering, the PB's for travel and editing; the main
machine, at home, is where I do midi input. But based on this experience,
2k4 is staying away from it for now.)
