Really? I think we must be working from different definitions of the ornament.

"A 'crushed' note: an ornament consisting of an accessory note adjacent to (usually a semitone below) the main note, sounded with it and at once released." (The Norton/Grove Concise Encyclopedia of Music)


That minimal definition is often expanded (especially in Scarlatti) beyond just 2 notes to indicate a tone cluster from which the clashing notes are at once released leaving a pure triadic chord. So an instrument that at minimum can play 2 adjacent notes simultaneously is a requirement, and only on a keyboard instrument (as opposed, say, to a bowed instrument, harp, or guitar) is it possible to immediately damp the clash notes.
