Layout would probably NOT be linked, but NOTES would. Does that make sense? I can't count how many times I've changed something in a score and FORGOT to update it in a part. Re extracting the part would be way more time consuming. The placement of titles, etc, etc. I'd just like to have the note DATA updated throughout a piece. Each part's layout is different on the stuff I do.

Once again, my little copying routine that I noted is so easy, that I can hardly imagine justifying the kind of rewriting it would take to accomplish linking ONLY notes in Finale. And doesn't anyone edit anything else?

I believe that those of us who have used Mosaic need to comment on this. In Mosaic, score and parts are always interlinked. Well, sort of! You do your note entry in Galley View. You then have to lay out each score page and each part page. It isn't so much extracting them as creating them. (Yes, you can simply use Mosaic's defaults for the score and parts pages, but you MAY alter them to improve your page design and layout. The key here is that you MUST go through the page layout process.)

Galley, score pages, and parts pages are all part of the same file. Any note changes, accidental changes, slurs or ties added or deleted, and expressions added or deleted in any view are automatically linked from score to part, from part to score, and from either to Galley.

However, note spacing is NOT linked. Changing note spacing, number of bars/line, etc. in the score and parts pages does not automatically transfer from one to the other, or from either to Galley View.

The advantage of this should be obvious; you can't mess up and not change one or the other by accident. However, there's a concommittent disadvantage: if you make an error in a part or in a score page, it appears incorrectly in the other and in the Galley View as well. Thus, checking the score against a questionable part in rehearsal does no good, because they will show the same error.

So think about how you actually want to use the feature before asking for it. Obviously it can be done, and Mosaic is not exactly a sophisticated program so it can't be all that difficult to do it. I'll leave it to better minds than mine to work out an ideal situation to recommend.

(N.b. Lyric entry in Mosaic has always worked well. It isn't intuitive, it has to be learned, and it can be frustrating at times because a single keystroke can mess you up until you find and fix it, but it works. Finale could learn from this.)
