Hey, come across the border into Vermont where we're never confused. :) Gmail is Google's free email with 1GB of storage. They broke the storage limit open, and other free email providers followed suit in a few weeks. Right now Gmail is in invitation-only beta format. It's really not crucial to me as I have my own server with bouckays of space, but I was invited and decided to give it a test run. It *is* the fastest webmail I've ever used, though unfortunately it doesn't yet work with Opera, my preferred browser. Gmail is ad-supported, with those unobtrusive Google ads. I have them on my sites; not very profitable, but I'm happy to accept the $200 they've earned me in nine months at a 1% clickthrough rate. And if that's any reflection of how Gmail will be financed, then Google should make more than enough income to finance hardware, bandwidth, and spam filters.
