Just as an aside, English handbells made in America use the octave number method. As a transposing instrument, however, the bell that is labelled C4 and *sounds* at middle-C is written as an octave below middle-C. The note name/number is written on the handle.

English-made English handbells, OTOH, use a different system of nomenclature & I'm not sure where it derives from. In their system, C4 is called 29C.
