[Finale] MIDI and 2004kMac question

I opened up FinMac 2k3 in classic, and had no problem inputting and 
playback through my synth. Then I opened up 2k4 and couldn't input or 
playback with my synth.

Then I shut down classic, and opened up 2k4 again, this time everything 
worked ok. Is that just a fluke, or does classic need to be shut off 
before my MIDI will work properly in OS X?
