Hi all,

All this talk about percussion maps has got me looking in more detail at the interface, and now I've got a question.

I've always based my percussion maps on the General MIDI Entry and Playback map. As I said in my earlier post, if I want snare (for example) on the third line, I map MIDI pitch B4 to playback 38, set it to Staff Position 6, and I'm done. But now I see that in the Treble Clef Entry map, for example, snare is assigned to MIDI pitch 72 (which is fine, of course) -- using playback 72! I thought the whole point was that snare is defined in GM as 38, and so if you want a snare sound you need to playback through 38. How does the Treble Clef Entry map get away with using playback note 72 for snare?

Have you tried it in your score? Does it work? I think they put those numbers in just for placeholders, expecting each person to have to put the exact playback note number they need for their drum-kit patch.

They're not all the same. That's one aspect of GM which is not standard.
