Totally agree with you. I looked at that tuplet bug, and I agree it is there, but I don't really see it causing me issues, and if they fix it, great. Otherwise, Finale 2004 has been great, and looking forward to 2005.

Friends:

In my opinion, the negativism displayed relative to the two bugs reported by Kevin and David is unwarranted.

I'm sorry, but when they say "we know it's a bug and we're not going to fix it" I can only see arrogance.

It's not as if they said "we're having a hard time fixing it." or "We are trying but it seems impossible to fix." That would show some effort on their part. The end result would be the same, the bug wouldn't be fixed, but at least it would give the appearance of caring.

"We're not going to fix it" gives the appearance that they just don't care. It may just be semantics, but isn't treating the customers with respect and care what customer service about?

As for their press release about financial status, I never understand how a company can lose that much money and stay in business, so I can only see that their per-share price is very low, so nobody wants to buy shares in the company, and the risk level is above average, showing that some experts think it is a bit risky investing in MakeMusic. That means they think it's an above average chance that you'll lose money on your investment.

If that inspires any of us about the financial well-being of the company, terrific! I certainly hope they continue, because I find Finale to be the best notation program for my working methods and my needs.

And despite what I view as arrogance on the part of tech support or whomever is responsible for saying "we know it's a bug but we're not going to fix it" and despite the tuplet bug I ordered my upgrade the day it was announced. I'm doing my part to support them, I would hope they could do a better job of supporting me.

The suggestion that we turn off one of the biggest reasons to buy this upgrade and we'll be no worse off than we are now tickled my funny bone! No worse off maybe, but a lot poorer and fooled into spending money for something the company already knew was broken but failed to notify its customers.

I am chagrined that MakeMusic itself (in it's financial press release) admits that the Finale family of products is a relatively high margin product (that means they know they're making a lot of profit off us) and still can't seem to get tech support personnel who know how to be politic in their responses, all the while admitting that they don't have the money to adequately promote SmartMusic, the product they make the most comments about in relation to how the subscriptions are growing.

If Finale is the bigger-margin product, why don't they put more development staff and dollars there and give up on SmartMusic?
