Well, the only common one I can think of would be in a divisi passage, on a single staff, where one voice has a tied note, while the other has an intervenient note, as for example, if the first and second oboes both start out on g, with the second playing a half note, tied to a quarter, and the second playing the g only for a quarter note before moving to another pitch.
