This is the point on which the OED disagrees with you, since it spells the word with an accent (voil�) and doesn't even mention your "voila" as a variant.
The first half of my sentence was "One can make a perfectly reasonable argument that..." You yourself cited one dictionary that acknowledges such an argument. OED doesn't take that particular position -- nor do I, for that matter -- but that's not the same as saying the argument is unreasonable. Saying that "viola" is an acceptable spelling of "voila", on the other hand, is indeed completely unreasonable.
Perhaps I should have added a few smileys in my first message. I wasn't really serious.
