For those using Macs:
Nobody has mentioned the online backup possibility. I have a virtual disk in my desktop that backups automatically to my .Mac account disk space.
I can access to the disk from anywhere, even from a PC.
It is very unlikely that your place burn and the servers (wherever Apple have them) break at the same time.
250 Mb @ 99 bucks a year.
There must be options for PC out there, but I'll let Dennis Bathory-Kitsz tell us which are...

And what happens when yet another on-line company goes belly-up, taking all your backups with them? And how secure are they, anyway? They're nothing but hard-drives that live in somebody else's house or office.
Why not copy to external hard-drives on a rotating basis and simply keep them in a safety-deposit box at a nearby bank?
With hard-drives costing around $99/120GB, I don't see how your on-line backup is any more secure (how many people are constantly trying to hack into Apple's servers at any one time, I wonder) and certainly is no bargain.
