Fourthly, Finale Mac Support specifically told me that there were "a lot of complaints" about the Finale 2005 CD not working in optical drives on certain "older PowerBook G4 models", and that if they sent me a fresh CD it would almost certainly have the same problem.
Grrrrr.....I just don't buy this. And I think with all the intelligent testing you did on your drive you narrowed it down to bad media on Coda's part. Coda's blaming of the drive irks me. They could have simply said something like "we know that with as many disks as we have manufactured, there are bound to be a few that don't work correctly. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We will send you a replacement disk free of charge. We greatly appreciate your patience and your business."
At most they are out a few dollars and at best they have shown goodwill to a loyal customer who will make up for those dollars ten fold. It's not like they are sending you an extra serial number.
Their solution: either (A) find a friend with an optical drive that could read the Finale 2005 CD and transfer its files to my computer (which I did), or (B) replace my optical drive (or entire computer) with a newer model.
Grrrrr again! This is unbelievable to me....very bad business.
However, they did leave open the option that they could custom-burn me an installation CD that would work on my optical drive.
Ha! I wonder what the difference is :-)! I think I got one of those "custom burned" CD's the first time around! Nice of them to do you this favor considering your "bad drive" and all.
Sorry for the sharpness of this post. But my pet peeve is when loyal customers (or any customers for that matter) get yanked around by a company. Kudos to you for getting the program installed despite all of Coda's "help."
And yes, I would respectfully but firmly insist on a replacement CD.
Best,
Karen
