I am a PC/WinXP/Finale 2005a user. Buried somewhere in the documentation is the comment that not all scanners generate a SmartScan compatible file. This also directs the reader to their scanner documentation for help (UGH!).

For years I had given up on using SmartScan because I always got an error message telling me that the source .tif document was unrecognizable. The work around I mentioned came to me in a serendipitous moment this past summer.

I think the Win version of Finale actually supports Twain scanning (ie you can scan from within Finale). Another thing where we Mac users are left out in the cold.
