Ken--

I was a die-hard speedy user. As we developed this feature, I soon realized that I could enter things 40% faster using the new simple entry. The only thing I use speedy for now is when I do horn parts in marches--since you can't hold a note down on your keyboard and enter a quarter-8th pattern by simply pressing a durations quickly (ie hold down G on the MIDI keyboard and type 5454 quickly to fill a measure), I enter the first horn part with speedy, and the rest using the repitch tool, and never touch the computer keyboard.

It's a heckova lot better for me, but YMMV.

Ken,

Simple Entry allows the addition of dynamic markings and articulations with meta tools at the same time as you are entering notes. I am not used to this method and have the usual reluctance to change long standing habits, but the Finale folks who demonstrate the software (I see them yearly at a convention) use Simple Entry with a midi keyboard, and they are very fast with this method. They have adapted to the newer method and claim it is better. they are probably right. The instructions are in chapter 15 of the on line documentation.

Yes, I know. But this is only good if all the values are going to be the same
for a while - not usually the case for me.

On WinFin (I expect it is similar on the Mac, but I can't try it) you
can use the shift lock in Speedy Entry to select note value first and
then pitch (as many pitches as you like, and as fast as I can play;
YMMV).

I keep my right hand on the computer keyboard and change note lengths as
necessary. I don't use Simple Entry; is it any better than this?
