As many of you know, I had a fire last year that destroyed all my home audio and video equipment. As the time is finally approaching when I can move back into my house, it is time to start thinking about replacing this stuff.

Question: what do people think of using a home theater system as an all-purpose hi-fi system? They are amazingly cheap compared to the same components purchased individually, but Consumer Reports says (without providing any examples) that it is difficult to add additional components to them, and if I go this route I will have to add at the very least a turntable, phono preamp, and cassette deck.

Your thoughts/experiences?
