The "regular" Second Edition retails for $279 -- $30 more than the original.
As I read the announcement (and also based on the previous updates of the existing GPO), the 2nd edition of GPO only extends the product line with a Pro and a Lite version.
Hi Jari,
I think you must have misread. The Second Edition is (apparently) available now. The Pro and Lite versions will be available in a few weeks/months.
Check it out:
http://www.macworld.com/news/2005/01/06/garritan/index.php
Garritan Orchestral Libraries on Thursday announced Garritan Personal Orchestra Second Edition, and ***also*** [emphasis mine] offered plans to publish an Advanced Pro Edition and Lite Academic version.
[...]
The new Second Edition version includes Steinberg's Cubase LE Sequencer for Mac and Windows and a new version of Garritan's own GPO Studio, a VST host application. More instrument patches and sounds with additional playing controls are also included.
The Professional Edition, which ads [sic] more instruments and articulations, will retail for $499 when it's released in the Spring of 2005. The Lite version, a scaled-back collection, will ship in the first calendar quarter of 2005 for $149.
I read another article that had a more detailed breakdown of the differences between the "regular" Second Edition, the Professional Edition (which will, obviously, be based on the Second Edition), and the Lite version, but I can't find it now.
