It should be noted that responsible attention to accessibility doesn't mandate giving up the fancy techniques entirely; it only requires offering alternatives to them. HTML is designed so that any element can be implemented with a lower-level fallback alternative which any browser which can't handle it will render instead. With good design, you can make your site appear with the proprietary stuff for most users and still be accessible to everyone.
