I uses Finale to produce MIDI files because I'm creating scores from
old sources, and as I edit the score, I need the MIDI file to update
accordingly. If I had to update the MIDI file separately to reflect
changes to the Finale score, it would be a nightmare.

So, from my point of view, the only *real* way to create MIDI files
from a notation program is to have the notation program usable as a
sequencer. Finale is frustrating in many respects, but because of my
notational orientation, I find real sequencers extremely hard to use,
as well.

To me, it's simply natural for the notation to produce a proper MIDI
performance. Sequencers are unnatural for the way I think about
music.
