Two companies I work for use Times Semibold font for lyrics. I'm using Mac Finale 2004c and Mac OS 10.3.5 on a G4 powerbook. I've always used "1. Xxx" at the beginning of the verses with an "option space" to hold everything together as one syllable. In F2004c Times Semibold looks fine on the screen but prints out with no space. When I try other fonts it works fine. Does anyone know what the problem might be?
I'll venture a guess here that the other companies you work for are
using older fonts. It used to be (and I'm not sure exactly when the
change occurred) that in the high order characters, Fonts intended for
the MAC OS mapped such characters as the "non-breaking hyphen",
"non-breaking space", "N-dash", and others to different locations in the
font file than the windows standard did. This is no longer the case,
and you can open a file on a MAC under os 10.3.5, as you have done, and
it will show the current version of the font, which has the characters
mapped differently than the old.
I seem to recall that there is a Finalescript "search and replace" for
lyrics, which should let you replace all of the old characters with the
same character from the current font. I've never used this myself, and
cannot guarantee that it will work.
