Friends:

I am aware of the attitutes of some towards the current authentication schemes. I'm not entirely thrilled with the situation myself, and would like to see some mechanism whereby if MakeMusic! fails we could either obtain a patch to make authentication codes unnecessary, or failing that, would continue to make authentication codes available. And it would be nice if the system were set up so the installation could be completed, and the code could be entered at any time within a certain time window.

But to those who characterize the (what I consider to be) modest scheme currently implemented by MakeMusic! to be "victimware", I would ask how you would propose that MakeMusic! maintain the integrity of the product. I've thought of several myself, and everyone I've thought of I like less than the current situtation. As I see it, the present arrangement is a reasonably good balance between the priviledges of the licensors (us) and the rights of the licensee (MakeMusic!).
