My assumption as for the reason for the non-transposing bass trombone in
the British Brass Band has always been so that if a G bass trombone was
not available, a player with a Bb tenor trombone (or later, of course, a
Bb bass trombone) who could read bass clef could fill in. Might I be
correct?
