I'm talking about the expression dialogue itself -- when you define the expression itself, you can enter some text which appears in the right-hand of the expression dialog so you can clarify what you are selecting. Just look at the expressions in the default template and you'll see what I mean.

The expresssions themselves will look exactly the same as the others when placed in the score (all the piano markings will be the single p) but when deciding on which one to select, the dialog will carry the descriptive text: Strings-piano or Guitar-piano (or whatever you care to enter.) There is a bar for entering text in the Expression creation dialog, labeled Description: -- that is where you would enter Strings-piano or Guitar-piano.

Now that we can add descriptive labels to expressions it is easier to

Thanks, David.

Could you elaborate on the descriptive labels? I'm putting a hidden "G" in
the tweaked expressions to tell the difference. Is that what you had in
mind, or does Finale have some capability I'm not aware of. I didn't find
anything else easily in the manual.

The other way is to get a soundfont editor and change the entire guitar
patch to more nearly echo the string section patch in volume. The
expressions are a lot easier than editing an entire soundfont.

Although I've never used one, I gather from your description I was thinking
in my original post along the lines of what a soundfont editor would do.

So, Finale can't do this. Is it too much to ask (of Finale)?

In the mean time, can anyone point me in the direction of a soundfont editor
that will edit Finale's sounds on the Mac?

Thanks for the help,

Hi everyone,

For my purposes, I've had pretty good success with Finale's internal sounds.
I've come across a problem that I don't see any obvious way around and
wonder if any of you might be able to help.

On the piece I'm currently working on, the default balance between the
internal sounds for acoustic guitar and string section is out of whack. Is
there any way to adjust this balance (in this case, turn the guitar volume
down)? Finmac 2005a / Power Mac G5 1.6 GHz / 1.25 gigs of ram.
