If you had read the whole thread (I've just left in a couple of
messages to remind you of what you missed), you'd already have known
that this was the case. There *is* a separate "Description" field in
the expression definition (as descibed by David Bailey) whose contents
are viewable from the Expression Selection window but not once the
expression is actually placed.

Ken Moore suggested an alternate means of differentiating between two
similar versions of an expression, but that was presented entirely as
an alternate ("The other ... feature"). I pointed out the flaws in
that alternate method, but it is certainly not the only (or even the
best) way to do it.
