Unfortunately "Holiday for Strings" requires a substantial wind section.
When the strings go arco the winds have buttons. Perhaps those chords could
be done pizz. but I think the effect would be greatly diminished. In the
middle section there is even a very exposed English Horn solo! I think it
would take a fair amount of (unaurthorized) rescoring to make it work. A
few years back I tried to do it with piano and strings but that, too, proved
ineffective.
