Thanks Jonathan --- the problem was switching layer 1 material to layer
4 but Karen Laloba was kind enough to send me a QK script that gets me
underway.

There is a key combi for changing layers (ctr-alt +1,2,3 or 4), so you
could just program that to the QK shortcut rather than a menu
selection.
