I have found in many cases that the song title at the top of pages 2,3,etc. clashes with chord symbols connectedto the top staff "system." Sometimes I can move the chord symbols over, but sometimes this is not practical. It still looks too crowded anyway.

How can I force the top system to be down far enough so that there is no clash between it and the song title at the top of the page? Manually moving it down using the "handles"has no effect.

Don't use the handles for this. They just change the size of the system margins, which only helps if you have enough room to drag them to start with. You can't drag the handle farther than the page margin, which is why you couldn't do anything to make this distance larger. With the Page Layout Tool, just click and hold somewhere on the system, and drag the whole system down.

That's it.

If you want to make the change permanent for all files created in the future (sorry, previously-created files will have to be changed manually) then do this:

Open the file called Maestro Default File, as this is the file that is looked at by the Setup Wizard (or JazzFont Default file if you use the jazz font, or your template if you use templates)

Option menu>Page Format for Score...First Staff Systems Margin>Top, is probably set to 1.5 inches (or the equivelant in EVPUs or cm, or whatever.) Make this a larger number. This is the vertical distance between the first staff and the handle you see on the upper left. OK your way back out, then select in the Page Layout Tool>Page Layout Menu>Redefine pages... all. See if this is what you want, and once it is, save this file (on PC, it must be saved as a template) under the same name.

If you want the same thing in your extracted parts, then repeat the above paragraph, but do it in Page Format for Parts instead.
