In a message dated 15/04/2005 20:18:25 GMT Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Mozart "composed" the C Minor Mass, but never quite finished writing it down." This blurred distinction in terminology between "composing" and "writing" should not be abandoned - from this comes the horn player's favourite joke which he tries to get into every programme note about the Beethoven Horn Sonata - its first performance date is earlier than the date of its composition. Having written the two dates in the programme, the wily horn player then sits back and waits for some know-it-all member of the great British public to come and mock at the misprint, the joke being that Beethoven improvised the piano part at its first perfomance and "wrote" the complete work later.
