Well, that's not the way it works. First the filters identify a potential spam message. Then, for ease of identity it adds the word SPAM to the subject line. I have my own options set to send anything with the word SPAM into a special junk mail folder.

Actually, I do not usually have much problem with this. Hardly ever does a message come through initially with
the word in it. It just happens that I use SPAM as a trigger to put mail in that folder.


While I do not have any real figures on this, I guess that I normally only have to move one message a week from the spam folder because generally the filtering process is accurate.

This was a singular instance where many people were forwarding a subject line. Most of these people are individuals that I know.

I am a HEAVY internet user. I probably get 200+ spam messages daily. When I check my mail I go into the spam folder and end up deleting almost everything. Fortunately neither program deletes mail before I get a chance to review it. My usual process is to scan the senders and move any message that gets through by mistake.

For example, right now I have a message from the Delius list concerning spam there. Sure enough, it was sent into the spam folder because the subject line contains "spam". That list is not quite so busy as the Finale list so I won't have quite the issue that precipitated this discussion.

Even with this small issue my programs catch about 99% of the spam that comes through.
