In the next month or so, I might finally buy a new TFT monitor (I have a 17" CRT at the moment). I'd like a slightly larger size (19-21"). I have to admit, having only had to buy a separate monitor once, I'm a little in the dark as to what I should be looking for regarding specification. I will be primarily using it for Finale, some sequencing and audio work, and occasional gaming (though that's a secondary consideration).
Which platform? On the Finale tips site's forum I have written some important things to keep in mind, if you want to shop for a TFT with pivot for Finale (subject "Portrait Monitor" in the "Better Workflow!" group)

Additionally, if you want it for gaming, you need a refresh speed of 25 ms at the very least. Usually, faster monitor don't have as much contrast.
