I spent some time, with the on-line documentation, and in "investigation" mode, trying to get an executable shape to function. After putting the project on a back burner for a bit, I'm having a bit

I used executable shapes back in WinFin 3.5.2. They still work in the files that have been upgraded through WinFin97 and are now in WinFin2K3.

Executable shapes have always been incredibly difficult to understand and configure, but they've always worked, so far as I can tell.

And they certainly aren't a relatively new addition to Finale.

There was a version where you had to jump through incredible counter-intuitive hoops to define an executable shape and then save it and have it play correctly. It was back around Fin2K. As I recall, when it came to one of the dialogs immediately after defining the shape you had to click the X to close the box instead of the OK. But I can't recall which dialog that was.
